The VCT Tiling Guide

Clean Your VCT Tile the Right Way

VCT tile (vinyl composition tile) is one of the more popular types of flooring for high traffic zones and is commonly found in commercial buildings, schools and hospitals. It is for that very reason that many people choose to use VCT in their homes in areas like the bathroom, kitchen, basement and other high traffic areas. The problem is that once it is down for a while, the gleam wears off and it no longer has the look that you desire.

The reason is very simple, it's dirty and you have to clean it. While it may not be your favorite thing to do, the pain will be over soon enough and your floor will once again be the pride of the neighborhood. Now roll up those sleeves and in a few hours, it will be as good as new.

You are going to need to use something that will really strip the dirt away from the floor. Oxy clean products are great for this as well as the citrus cleaners. Make a solution up with very hot water and you are ready to get to work.

Dip your mop into the water without ringing it out and then apply it to the floor. Do smaller section so that you don't end up having the floor covered in water. Once you have it saturated, it is time to start digging in and cleaning it up. You can use a nylon brush for this and may have to do each section several times until it is clean. Once you have the whole floor done, you will change out the water in the bucket to clean water and continue to rinse the floor until you have everything up.

From there, the floor will need to air dry. When it has completely dried, you can then apply the VCT sealer. Once again, allow the floor to dry and then reapply the sealer. Once the floor has dried from the second coat, you should be looking down at a floor that looks like it is brand new.

While VCT tile is extremely durable, it will still have to be maintained in order to keep that luster. You will not have to do this procedure very often, but a few times a year will ensure that it keeps it sheen and that you have a floor to be proud of.
