While you may not like the answer, concrete is always a great basement flooring option to look at.  Most people will shudder at this as they have the opinion that a concrete floor will end up making their basement damp and cold, but that is hardly the case.  If you get a little creative, your concrete basement flooring will look as good or better than carpeting or tile.         

The basement is one area of the home that can add significant value and is one of the areas where you can actually get more than you invest in it.  There is a lot of monetary value placed on a home that has a finished basement compared to a home that uses it for storage and laundry.  You are in essence adding another complete living space to your home.

With concrete flooring, you have many options at your disposal for decorative ideas, but one of the more attractive may be the stained concrete look.  You would be amazed at how natural a floor can look when it is done professionally.  So much so that people will do a doubletake when you tell them that floor is actually concrete. Most people are under the impression that this type of finish will be very slick to walk on, but that could not be further from the truth.  The stain will be absorbed into the concrete and you can still have a very safe floor to walk on.  You will also alleviate the fear of water damage as you would have with carpeting or tile.

The one thing that you will have to keep an eye out for is wear.  Since it is concrete, the finish will only be absorbed into the top layer of the concrete.  You will need to protect it and you can do this with several coats of floor wax.  This will give the layer of protection that is needed to make sure that the finish does not wear off.

Basement flooring can be a little boring sometimes, but you would be surprise at how a concrete basement floor can be jazzed up.  No more dingy carpets or cheap tile are necessary as you can have a floor that will not only look good, but also add significant value to your home.
